AFRICA TRAVEL ASSOCIATION WELL REPRESENTED AT ADVENTURES IN TRAVEL EXPO IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Report by Helen C. Broadus

Washington, D.C: January 31, 2005. The Africa Travel Association (ATA) was a travel industry supporter at the Adventures in Travel Expo, which was held January 29-30, 2005 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The Adventures in Travel Expo featured a myriad of activities and special events to include: travel and meeting industry day on January 28; numerous seminars by well-known travelers and explorers; practical demonstrations by outfitters and leading photographers; exciting floor show activities such as rock climbing walls, an aerial zip-line ride and scuba lessons; unique prizes and giveaways to amazing destinations; and more than two hundred exhibitors representing the best in adventure, cultural and active travel.

Featured travel and tourism pavilions included ecotourism and nature; cruise lines; hiking and camping; rafting and canoeing; weekend getaways; as well as destinations around the world to include Africa, Asian Pacific, Belize, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Mexico, South America and the United States. The overall theme of the Adventures in Travel Expo was "life is a trip, plan the vacation of a lifetime" which was quite appropriate for the occasion. For more information about the Adventures in Travel Expo, please visit their website at www.adventureexpo.com.

The Africa Travel Association's exhibit booth area was highly visited by individuals who expressed a full range of interest in African tourism destinations and attractions from adventure, cultural, educational, historical, nature, safari and a combination of all of the above in the planning of their dream vacation to Africa.

In addition, many individuals involved in the travel and tourism industry (i.e.travel agents, event coordinators, travel writers, et-cetera) expressed keen interest in joining the ATA organization. Lastly, the Expo was a great opportunity to promote the Jubilee Congress of the Africa Travel Association (ATA) that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Information for the Republic of Kenya and sponsored by the Kenya Tourism Industry.
