To our Tourism Colleagues

As an advertising media and marketing combination, ATA offers Africa Travel Magazine - plus its award winning website - #1 for many Africa topics on the world's leading search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN. ATA member countries and private sector advertisers in the printed magazine receive generous year-round promotion on our 3,500-page Internet portal.

The Association owes much of its success to the reach and influence generated by this unique media team. The print magazine has maintained a quality image for ATA, earning the loyalty of repeat advertisers over the past 11 years. With the support of present and future host countries we aim to greatly expand Africa Travel Magazine's circulation and frequency. Two installments are currently in production:

1. Preview Edition: Souvenir copy for delegates and guests at the ATA Ecotourism Symposium in Nigeria, Nov. 15-20.

2. Final Edition: Expanded version, featuring symposium activities, plus a preview of ATA 32nd World Congress in Ethiopia.

Africa's host countries benefit greatly from the positive publicity generated by the magazine, and some have received 30 or more advertorial pages on our website. This 'value-added' bonus, worth thousands of dollars, includes hosted pages, directory listings and banners, plus new online radio programs, interviews and TV features.

Thanks to advertising barter with show management, our exhibits 'anchor' the Africa Section at The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, NBC and Boston Globe Travel Shows, Harvard University, Adventures in Travel Expo in New York, Chicago and Washington, Tourism Africa in Geneva and several Canadian shows. Africa Travel Magazine is the main marketing tool at these events.

This summer at the World Urban Forum in Vancouver, Canada, I began a series of interviews with Africa's mayors for a feature on "Africa's Great Cities - Cultural Capitals of the World," which begins in this issue. We expect this exciting series to generate widespread interest, increased subscriptions and newsstand distribution.

Last month in Geneva, ATA Executive Director Edward Bergman presented a "Global Outlook" for promoting tourism to Africa from North America, Europe and Asia. Two weeks later, ATA President Hon. Jake Obetsebi- Lamptey of Ghana was a key figure at the African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference in Bermuda. These efforts reflect our alliance with PATA and the Asia-Pacific market. Africa Travel Magazine's coming issue summarizes events and will be circulated to delegates at major venues from November 15 through all of 2007

We urge you to order advertising by October 25 and appear in both the Preview and Final Editions.

Warmest Regards,

Jerry W. Bird
Editor and Publisher
