Dear
music lovers and Afrodisiacs Vancouver, BC, Canada: After
7 full years at the ANZA Club, AFRODISIA will have
its final night this Saturday, July 26th. at
9:30pm. Big thanks to all of you who replied
supporting the principle of membership purchase to
keep it going at the ANZA Club. The reality is that
I am not so confortable in selling membership. I am
a DJ, I can deal with music, not with politics or
the absurdities of the ever powerfull Liquor Board.
If some suits' daily routine is to come up with new
ideas to crackdown on community and private clubs
so that nights like AFRODISIA can no longer operate
legally, I don't want these people to come one
Saturday night and, realizing that we are 1 member
short that night, ask me to stop the evening in
progress... Instead, and many of you
seem to agree, I want to finish AFDRODISIA "en
beauté", at its peak and take time to come
up with a new formula, at a new location. Here is a
quote from one the Afrodisiacs, (thanks Reg!) that
sounded true to me when I read it: "...perhaps it's time for
Afrodisia to evolve? Maybe the anza club has
exhausted its very long duration? I suggest a move
to a new, larger yet equally rootsy
location? I wish luck with this small
set-back but you musn't let the music die
out.... We need you brother.......
" Words of wisdom.... I plan
on following the idea and be assured that as soon
as the next generation is born, you'll be the first
ones to know ! I will , of course, continue to send
my little impromptu newsletter keeping you up to
date with the musical events I enjoy or I am
involved with (by the way LES NUBIANS + ZAP MAMA
are coming July 28th at the COMMODORE ). I would like to thank the
ANZA Club and its staff for making AFRODISIA such a
special night for all of us during all these years.
Only in a city like Vancouver would have the
Australia New-Zealand Association become the place
for African music afficionados. Cheers mates ! I
would also like to thank DJs Toby & Steve for
the birth of AFRODISIA (when it was still on
Commercial drive) and to DJs Denise, Kevin, Antoine
& Stan who have guested + all the
musicians that performed at AFRODISIA. I would like
to thank all our door people of the last 7 years:
Dina, Yuki, Brian, Nagi, Ron, Gregory, Megumi,
Gilles, Robert (sorry if I forgot anyone). Most of
all, I would like to thank you all for years of
good vibes, good dance moves and support. If you
know some regulars who are not on this mailing
list, please pass the message ! I don't want to
miss anybody Enough nostalgia. A new era
is starting this Saturday, for the last AFRODISIA @
the ANZA Club !! See you all there
!! peace & music marc fournier, DJ Africa Travel
