The Republic of Cameroon hosted the Africa Travel Association's (ATA) Fifth Ecotourism, Trade & Investment Symposium, November 25 to 30, 2001, in Yaounde, the country's capital. The announcement was made jointly by the Hon. Pierre Hele, Cameroon's Minister of Tourism and Mira Berman, ATA Executive Director. The November Symposium was the first ATA event Cameroon has hosted since the successful ATA Congress held in Douala, May 1987. The five-star Hilton Yaounde was the headquarters hotel.

A high level Cameroonian delegation from the Ministry of Tourism, led by Secretary General Chief Clarkson Tanyi-Mbianyor held a four city promotional tour, Oct. 3-16.

Host Country Overnight Visits Kribi
A highlight of the five-day symposium was an overnight to Kribi, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism of Cameroon, providing all delegates with a taste of Cameroon's rich, colorful, and diverse cultures. The private tourism sector, under the leadership of
Francoise Kameni Lele, Managing Director, Cameroon Travel Center, and President of ATA's newly formed Cameroon Chapter, wqorked closely with the Ministry of Tourism to ensure an exciting experience for the ATA symposium delegates.

Kribi, an oceanfront village, is one of the rising stars of Cameroon's developing "Riviera. "Following a scenic ride through the Equatorial forest, delegates will be delighted by their arrival at Kribi &endash; the ocean comes into view just beyond palm fringed, sugar sand beaches that stretch on as far as the eye can see. The cultural extravaganza will include local folklore, performances by dancers from 10 regions of the country, and a visit to a nearby Pygmy village. Delegates will stay overnight in Kribi, and return to Yaounde the following day.
