foundation stone laying ceremony.
CORINTHIA NEVSKIJ PALACE
HOTEL, ST PETERSBURG, RUSSIA
The extension and
refurbishment project of the Corinthia Nevskij
Palace Hotel as the leading hotel in St Petersburg,
Russia, took a major step forward with the laying
of a foundation stone by her Excellency Valentina
Matvienko, Governor of St. Petersburg.
The Chairman of
International Hotel Investments plc (IHI), Mr
Alfred Pisani, visited St. Petersburg for the
occasion and affirmed IHI's commitment to invest
further in the City. "We are very confident of the
future of St Petersburg, both as a tourism
destination, as also as an important political and
economic hub. This augurs well for our project, and
indeed underpins our decision to invest a further
Euro 75 million in the Nevskij Palace Hotel, by way
of upgrading the current facilities, as also
re-developing three buildings on either side of our
property", Mr Pisani told guests attending the
ceremony.
Governor Matvienko
welcomed the investment and confirmed the City's
commitment to supporting IHI's plans for St
Petersburg. The Nevskij project is scheduled for
completion in late 2007.
The project
features the refurbishment of all public areas in
the current hotel and principally the total
re-organisation of the hotel lobby, befitting a
world-class sense of arrival. The project will also
include the upgrade and redevelopment all the
hotel's restaurants.
In addition, the
project will feature the extension of the Hotel
into the adjoining building at 59 Nevskij Prospekt.
This extension will house an additional 105
executive standard bedrooms and a 250m2
Presidential Suite, bringing the hotel's total
inventory to close to 400 bedrooms. The new
bedrooms will be supported by a separate executive
club lounge, where guests can avail themselves of
separate check-in and lounge facilities. Besides,
the extension will feature the city's first hotel
conference centre, with some 14 state-of-the-art
meeting rooms including a Grand Ballroom. Over
1,000 guests can be accommodated in the conference
centre, thus enabling Corinthia to internationally
market St Petersburg as a top class destination for
meetings and events for international
companies.
At 55 Nevskij Prospekt, the project will feature
the development of Nevskij Plaza, a prestigious,
elite commercial centre. The first two floors of
Nevskij Plaza will house exclusive and upscale
retail outlets, while the remaining six floors will
accommodate premium offices for rent. To provide
ease of access and comfort to tenants, guests and
customers, the commercial centre will be directly
connected to a purposely-built multi-storey car
park in Stremyannaya Street.
