Project Team and Project Technical
Advisors will carry out diagnostic and
baseline research and will define and
develop agreements regarding operational
and implementation strategies with Mukono
District Local Government and all key
stakeholders.
Expected
Results/ Outputs
Schools:
In
order to be effective, it is important
that environmental education targets the
young generation who are not yet corrupted
with careless, none conservation habits.
The project will in this case target its
awareness programs to primary schools in
the district. The specific outputs
expected in this area will
include:
1.
Environmental education resource
materials, which are specific to Mukono
District, will be developed. Commercial
publishers will be encouraged to
participate as active partners in the
printing and distribution of these new
materials to ensure long time
sustainability of the
program.
2.
Teachers specializing in Environmental
Education at primary schools in the
District will be offered training in the
use of new materials and teacher handbooks
/curricula guides will be availed to all
schools (a minimum of one per school).
Mukono District examination body will be
encouraged to utilize environmental
education questions.
Community:
1. A
business community forum will be
established for promoting social and
environmental responsibility and
sustainable development. Three specific
cause-related marketing programs will be
implemented in the local radios and
through the local music artists who
command a wide audience.
2.
Innovative commercially driven
conservation initiatives will be supported
and developed within the District which
promotes ecotourism, agro forestry and
sustainable natural resource
management.
3. Two
(2) more best practice demonstration
centers to be set up and improvement of
the existing one to ensure proper coverage
of the District. The demonstration centers
will be well equipped to provide
information to community visitors who
would be encouraged to learn and adopt
best practices. Community visiting days
will be organized to include lots of
educational kits/drama and information
dissemination programs.
4. Well
trained community extension workers of
mainly women and the less privileged in
the community who would carry out
environmental extension work for a fee to
improve their livelihoods. Such work will
include: breeding seedling for sale,
conducting environmental education and
follow up visits for the District Local
Government and for other NGOs and working
as sales agents for commercial
publisher.
5.
Selected families will be offered training
and guidance to develop capacity to host
