In an effort to boost tourism, Kenya has lifted VISA requirements for US citizens visiting Kenya for 30 days or less. New York Times Promotes ATA's Marlene Melton
NEW YORK, December 9, 1999: The New York Times Advertising department has announced that Marlene Melton has been named Account Manager for Foreign Tourism. Major account responsibility will be for Latin America, Africa and Asia, and will include tourism organizations, airlines and e-commerce. She will also serve as liaison with several travel industry associations. Marlene has had a diverse career at The Times over the past eighteen years. She brings a strong background in advertising sales and management from experiences in various national account categories, including beverage alcohol, health and pharmaceuticals, corporate and advocacy and, most recently, marketing services and strategy.

Many travel industry professionals will know of Marlene's involvement with the Africa Travel Association, an industry organization founded in 1975 to promote tourism to Africa. She is currently in a second, two-year term as president of ATA's New York chapter. In May 1999 she received ATA's Murray Vidockler Founder's Award for her contributions and years of involvement with tourism promotion to Africa. Marlene's new responsibilities at The New York Times will become effective January 3, 2000.
