Details on last year's event - INDABA 2002

INDABA 2002, sponsored by South African Tourism, is scheduled to take place from 11 to 14 May at the International Conference and Exhibition Centre in Durban, KwaZulu Natal in a re-designed setting that will offer more space, comfort and variety with the additional benefit of new technology offering improved access to comprehensive information in and around the exhibition.

The annual event &endash; regarded as the prime showcase for the best quality and value-for-money tourism products from the Southern African region and the Indian Ocean islands - promises to be bigger and better than previous Indabas that have, in their turn, attracted in the region of 1 500 delegates annually from approximately 70 countries.

This year, delegates will not only note a marked increase in the number of exhibitors - representing the full spectrum of the African tourism plant ranging from game and nature reserves to Internet-based tourism companies - but also a substantial increase in the number of SMME (small, medium and micro enterprises) exhibitors, most noticeably from the Northern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga, North West and Western Provinces.

Cheryl Carolus, chief executive officer of South African Tourism, has made a strong commitment to transforming the face of tourism in South Africa, most specifically as contributing to the country's ongoing battle against poverty and social upliftment as well as to increasing tourism arrivals, increasing tourism spend and improving geographic spread and the issue of seasonality.
