Beating the Big Apple Traffic Jam

In the midst of the New York traffic jams last week due to the many heads of state attending the UN General Assembly, Citibank was hosting a dinner in honor of H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, at the New York Palace Hotel. Ann Tillman, VP Sales & Marketing for Corinthia Hotels in the US, tried to reach Karen Hoffman of the Bradford Group to say that her cab was barely moving and she would be late for dinner.

When she got Karen's voice mail Ann called the hotel and said she urgently needed to speak to someone organizing the event for the Tanzanian President. The switchboard operator connected Ann, and she hurriedly explained to the polite gentleman who answered the phone that she was trying to get a message to Karen Hoffman of the Bradford Group to reassure her  that she was on her way.

At the dinner that night, H.E. Kikwete thanked all those who came to the event despite the challenges caused by all the traffic jams. He then looked around, and with a big grin on his face, asked the audience if Ann Tillman had arrived yet. When she got up and raised her hand, in a great demonstration of his wonderful sense of humor, the Tanzanian President  proceeded to deliver the message to Karen Hoffman.
