J O U R N
A L The Journal of Peacebuilding and Development is a tri-annual journal providing a forum for the sharing of critical thinking and constructive action on issues at the intersections of conflict, development, and peace. Creating the conditions for genuine peace in the world requires engaging and harnessing contemporary and historical development towards better servicing humanity in a sustainable, meaningful manner. It necessitates generating policies and processes that work to eliminate and prevent structural and physical violence, while fostering just social relations and structures. JPD aims to discover and examine the tools that will make this possible the shared values that can be nurtured and promoted, the common aims and strategies that can be jointly pursued. Facilitating interaction between practitioners, activists, academics and policy-makers, JPD highlights transformative approaches that are taking place at different levels, while seeking convergence on paradoxical issues. The publication endeavours to capture and examine critical peacebuilding and development topics and questions that challenge our era, including: Development policy and practice: implications for conflict and peace Social and economic policy: conflicts and possible resolutions People-centered development in divided societies Governance, human rights and human security Reconciliation and justice The economics of war and peace Globalization: impacts, trends and agency Poverty elimination and building a structure of peace Identities and relationships in conflict and development Development assistance, humanitarian disasters and peace building Featuring constructive approaches and best practice cases, JPD examines, challenges and explores critical theories, and their implications for public policy. Aiming to foster North-South dialogues, JPDís authors, advisors and editorial staff will represent global scholarship, practice and activism. JPD is distributed to an international civil society of peacebuilders and development workers, alongside policymakers and scholars, community leaders and others working to address complex conflict and development challenges. The mix of theory, practice, policy analysis and recommendation seeks to ensure that JPD offers a holistic, useful and visionary set of approaches for those striving to advance collaborative efforts between the two fields.
