Regional Air flies the Air Highways of Tanzania

Iris McCallum (left), General Manager and Chief Pilot of Regional Air Services, based in Arusha, Tanzania, has been flying for 25 years, with over 13,000 flying hours. We had the pleasure of flying with Iris on an Air Safari from Arusha to the Serengeti Lodge during the ATA 24th Congress. It was an unforgettable Tanzanian excursion (photo below by Muguette Goufrani). Regional Air launched its first charter in June, 1997 after successfully obtaining an Air Operator's Certificate from the Tanzania Directorate of Civil Aviation. Scheduled services began the following month, with a Piper nine- passenger twin engine turboprop aircraft operating on a three times weekly basis to Lake Mantra, Serenera and Gamete River Camp.

A change of scene - In May Regional Air moved its Arusha Office to the flats behind the KK Guards offices on the Nairobi Road (formerly known as the Great North Road) in the technical College area.

1. SCHEDULE RATES FROM 1ST DEC 2001

We are happy to advise that both our schedule and charter prices will remain the same with even a few reductions on some return legs! The only change is a minimum load requirement on the Klein's Camp sectors. The afternoon schedule is changing as the Kili Express service will be put back an hour, so clients flying in from the Masai Mara can catch the service to Kilimanjaro. We are just finalising the new timetable and will send it very soon.

2. CHECK-IN AND DEPARTURE TIME

We endeavour to have a punctual service for you. In order to do this we cannot wait for late passengers. We would therefore like to clarify the timing on our schedule service. The time in our published timetable is our take-off time and not the time we close the aircraft doors. The aircraft doors need to be closed approximately 10 minutes prior to take-off. Checking in and loading takes around 15 - 20 minutes. Hence that is why passengers should check in 30 minutes prior to take-off time and not later!

Please therefore ensure your clients are at the airport or bush airstrip at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time which is printed in our timetable.

As per our General Conditions of Carriage, "The Company reserves the right to re-allocate seats if passengers have not checked in 15 minutes before this time." In other words we will consider your clients are a no-show if they have not appeared 15 minutes prior to the departure time, and we will shut our aircraft doors so that we can take off on time.

3. LOBO AIRSTRIP
Due to the poor condition of the airstrip we will no longer land at Lobo. The bushes are too close for comfort on the strip and we consider it unsafe for use at present.
