Letter regarding a Tanzania Heart Institute

Friends:

We found your web site searching for the Flying Hospital. Tried to use the URL shown on your page, but to no avail.

We have been invited by the Heart Institute to visit Tanzania as soon as we are able to raise the necessary funds. We are a pediatric cardiothoracic surgical team that operates on babies and children under 12 years of age who suffer from congenital heart defects. We only do the high risk highly complicated cases.

In the US, funds have virtually dried up for nonprofits. Would you have any sources we might contact who might be interested in this humantarian project?

In addition to operating, we also teach the host surgical team the latest techniques in surgery and teach the critical care nurses the latest in post-op care.

As a point of reference, in the US the average cost of open heart surgery is $150,000. US dollars. It runs from a low of $50,000 to a high of $300,000. We average $7,500 per operation and in a 10 day period we do a minimum of 12 operations. More if the facilities are available as well as additional instruments.

On a positive note, if you are unable to offer any advice at least you will know who we are and what we do. Please take a look at us at:
