The Kilimanjaro Adventure Challenge and the Kili Marathon, Tanzania February 2006

Calling all Marathon, Half Marathon and Adventure Racers!!!

Pit your stamina against the highest mountain in Africa - Kilimanjaro. These two events will be loads of fun, and of course challenging by nature..... read on for more info!

Kilimanjaro Marathon, Half Marathon & Fun Run

Held in the bustling town of Moshi (which has one of the best night-clubs in Tanzania by the way!), this race is now into its fourth year. With Kili towering above you, local supporters along the route cheering you along, and plenty of people to meet on the race itself - its becoming an event not to be missed. Whilst the race is IAAF registered and measured, the majority of runners from outside Tanzania are there for the camaraderie and sheer enjoyment of running under the watchful eye of Kilimanjaro. Regular water tables, technical support and officiation ensures that this race is comparable to any international marathon. This race can be used as a qualifier for Comrades etc too. Last year we attracted some 750 entrants on to the full and half marathons, and well over 1500 on the fun run!

The altitude gain is not great with the race being completed between 850m - 1100m asl, and on tarred roads throughout.

Choose from 42.2km, 21.1km or a 5km fun run - loads of travel packages available, either the race only (over a weekend), the race plus climbing Kili, race and a safari or the race and a few days on Zanzibar. Wild Frontiers, the official organisers, are holding confirmed bookings and look forward to hearing from you! Visit the website www.kilimanjaromarathon.com for further detail, or email wildfront@icon.co.za

And now for something completely different..... the Kili-MAN-jaro Adventure Challenge!!

If you prefer multi-disciplines, then this event is for you!

From 15-27 February 2006.

Over a period of 10 days, you will summit Kilimanjaro to Uhuru peak (a 7 day hike, to allow proper acclimitisation - and this part is NOT timed, but must be achieved), followed by a 283km timed cycle AROUND Kilimanjaro over two days, and then the next day you will have to complete the full marathon! Sound challenging enough? The cycle race will be fully supported with water points and crew, with an overnight included midway. We will have first aid crews, communications and back up staff throughout.

For those who successfully summit Kili, they will be eligible to earn the title of Kili-MAN (and woman!) - subject to the fastest cycle and marathon times! Whilst we expect some serious competitors to enter this race, we anticipate most entrants will be there for the fun of it .... and enjoy interacting with the locals, and seeing parts of Tanzania that most tourists simply dont get to!

The 13-day travel package, from Johannesburg, with flights included, the 7-day kili climb, all accommodation, meals etc is R17 850, with a team discount being offered for teams of five members or more (private or sponsored) to the tune of R1500 per person!
