Who's Who? Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About Us

Who are you?

"ATA is the only world travel industry association with African Tourism Ministers as President and Directors. This gives Africa Travel Magazine an edge in circulation via 23 African Countries that have hosted our events since 1976." Editor

We are Africa Travel Magazine, established in 1995 as the official voice of the Africa Travel Association and Showcase of Africa to the World. We focus on the travel trade, plus influential groups and upscale travelers. Our editorial pillars are Travel and Tourism, plus the related areas of Transport, Trade and Economic Development.

What is Africa Travel Magazine's Mission Statement?

"To showcase Africa as a destination for travel, commerce and tourism, to a North American and World audience, through our magazines, web sites, events and activities.

To be the catalyst for continued growth of the Africa Travel Association, by encouraging the opening of ATA Chapters worldwide."

To promote peace through tourism, by positive, non political journalism and outreach projects. This program aims to provide computers and software for desktop publishing, audio visual and Internet training in Africa.

What is your editorial policy?

Africa Travel Magazine (in print) and online features positive, upbeat, non political news and destination items by and about Africans. Because we distribute each edition over a full year or longer, we prefer articles of reasonable endurance, rather than repeat the fleeting news of the moment. That's why our magazines have become “keepers” and back issues are in demand for up to five years or more.

What is your frequency?

Africa Travel Magazine's online presence is a 24 hour/365 day affair, as an extension of our printed magazine. The print version is provided at key events in Africa and its markets. Until now, these events have been held semiannually, however our schedule will now cover 6 annual events (special editions). via The Africa Travel Library allows us to produce a magazine for any country or area that will partner with us

What is your reach, demographics and distribution?

Geographically, our prime target market is North America, which is why Africa Travel Magazine uses U.S. spelling and measurement most often in our editorial content. Recently, thanks to the universal reach of our web site and our move to a bilingual (French-English) format, we get subscriptions from around the world. The website receives added reach and support from two other sites WorldScene (Africa Scene) and Air Higways of the World.

As official voice of the Africa Travel Association, all members are employed in the travel industry. They serve key market groups, such as the 30 plus million African Americans, eco tourists, adventurers, educators and the seniors market.

What are your credentials?
The ATA Board of Directors, our magazine's advisors and biggest supporters, includes up to ten African Tourism Ministers. They work with senior airline managers, hotel executives and travel/ tour company owners. Our Managing Editor has a distinguished career in print and broadcast media, having won U.S. awards for Creative Excellence.

What are your topics and style?

Our magazine and web site is wide, deep, varied, fresh and friendly. Viewers say it's hassle free, well defined and organized for easy access of material. It's your portal to1200 pages of travel items and stories- enough to keep readers and viewers coming back time and again.

In print and online, our 'Editorial Menu' includes aviation, transportation, destinations, festivals and events, tourism industry news and personalities, hotels and resorts, arts, culture, food, fashion, ecotourism, wildlife, outdoor sports and leisure activities. We invite your input.
