Dance to
the lively and eclectic music of the
popular band Heritage. Heritage uses
traditional African instruments such as
thumb-pianos, blending the rhythms of
Africa and the African Diaspora with
contemporary sounds to create a truly
unique, enjoyable, and danceable
sound.

Festival

Quilt
Making Workshop
In this
exciting art workshop, explore traditional
African patterns and styles to make a
colorful fabric quilt square.
Mask
Making Workshop
African
mask making traditions are the inspiration
for this workshop where participants use
templates to create elaborate
masks.

learn different animal sounds as they
listen to the popular African folktale,
Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears, read
by storyteller Stacy Robinson. After
the story, children will create books that
tell their own story.

Family Unity Day

Join the
Museum for African Art as we bring the
music of Afro-pop sensation Shiko Mawatu
to Family Unity Day at Harlem week.
Be sure to stop by the museum's booth
where you can create colorful African
inspired beaded bracelets.
August

Celebrate
Brooklyn! African Festival
Location:
Prospect Park Bandshell,
Brooklyn.
Join the
fun and celebrate the 13th annual African
festival. There will be music, food,
crafts, and plenty of fun for the whole
family. Kanda Bongo Man from the
Congo will lead the bill with an eclectic
musical performance. Other musical
performers include Guinean performer
Sidiki, Lorraine Klassen from South
Africa, Beninois guitarist Kaleta, and the
African Brothers Collective, composed of
new afro-pop musicians from Togo, Senegal,
Ivory Coast, Italy, and New
York.
August

Children's Festival

Come
visit us again in Harlem as we bring the
music of Dominic Kanza and the African
Rhythm Machine to Harlem Children's
Festival. You can get your face
painted and make a bracelet
too.
