Kagga
Kamma Game Preserve Part
Two
- At
the "Bushmen Lodge" you are accommodated in
luxurious bushman huts and caves (above left) with
twin beds and ensuite bathrooms. This experience
and the feeling of being at one with nature will be
cited as one of your most interesting and enjoyable
memories. A fully
stocked bar, the Rotskombuis (Rock Kitchen)
restaurant, serving traditional South African
cuisine, or an open-air lapa (dining area) amidst
the night sky and stunning rock formations, will
make your evenings unforgettable.
The "Rest Camp" features a
sparkling pool built around a magnificent rock
outcrop and 3-bedroom-chalets, each with two
bathrooms set amongst the surrounding rock
formations.
According to Discovery Travel Channel, Kagga Kamma
is "one of the most popular Safaris Lodges for
Honeymooners of South Africa's Western Cape. Some rock paintings
are unique to Kagga Kamma, like the Cheetah; the
only other place sited, being in Zimbabwe. Kagga
Kamma guides are highly knowledgeable of these
paintings, some dating back 6000 years. They also
know the San culture and will help unravel their
rich web of history for you. Ancient living areas
can be visited to built a more complete picture of
these people, who roamed the area thousand of years
ago.
A number of hiking trails of various grades
traverse the Kagga kamma reserve and bring you
closer to the weathered and dramatic rock
formations, sometimes resembling mystical beasts
and demons. The San/Busmen
returned to Kagga Kamma from their land in the
Kalahari recently after realising that land alone
does not provide an income. They then again turned
to Kagga Kamma to help them make a living.Guests
will have the opportunity to make an informal visit
to the San craft centre in their free time. This is
the area where the San make and sell their
handicraft and is situated within easy walking
distance of the Buhman Lodge. Our
dream is to bring you into nature and to the
solitude of the awe-inspiring contrasts of this
district, to sit on a rock and look out over the
vast stretches of mountains, valleys and canyons.
Touching weathered stones and indigenous bushes
while soaking up the silence around you, and
listening to the wind gently caressing the mountain
tops. You're at one with nature, a feeling of
well-being and contentment overcomes you. To this
we add our knowledge of the unique mixture of flora
and fauna, making the experience of this 15 000 of
untouched wilderness so special. |
